Don't drink the water...

Worlds Apart - Marilyn Campbell

Ok, first the cover. Huh? Why do we have a Mel Gibson clone and a random female standing in a wind tunnel while clutching a bed sheet? Has nothing to do with the book.

Second, the story itself. Supposedly this is an alternate universe with Heart being like Earth only with women in control. Not seeing it. Also think Slave did it far more effectively in letting the men *think* they were in control while the women led them by the little head (without their knowledge of course. Hahah) Not to mention, in what universe would women be peaceful? Emmmm, right.

So now that I've grumbled about the setting, let me dig into the cast. The h is best described as self-righteous I think. She's all nice and good to all her patients, yet v. quick to write off the H's attraction as being due to circumstances. (Lady, if that's happening to you often, maybe it's a sign you need to act more professional). Of course, she ignores her own attraction there. And then there's the H - afflicted with White Knight syndrome, though unlike most victims, he acknowledges it by labeling himself as Don Quixote. After his charging off half-cocked to the rescue lands him in hot water as a scape goat, he apparently becomes unpleasant to the h. Or…did he become unpleasant to the h after she dismissed his feelings as circumstantial? Whatever, she uses the whole thing as proof that he's a good actor or on something or…

So a good portion of the book involves her refusing to search her own feelings, frustrated because he doesn't want to…I dunno… be best buddies (platonic) with her, etc., while trying to figure out how to get out. It's really an odd book too, because 2/3=3/4 of it takes place over a couple of days, and the last bit over a month to 6 weeks.
