The Duke's Perfect Wife (Highland Pleasures, #4) - Jennifer Ashley Not quite a full 4 stars. The duke - our H - was an ass for much of the book. It's the whole autocratic thing. He more or less bullied everyone into doing things his way (although he was less successful with Ian) and... entirely too calculating in his approach to the supposed love of his life. That this continued until nearly the last 4 or 5 chapters was irritating. Oh, he'd show signs of deep feeling, but then he'd be back to his old tricks of family only at his own convenience. Then disaster struck and it occurred to him to stay in hiding to protect his family. And the world moved on.

There was something about his "dark desires and proclivities" that made me uneasy. In a previous book, it was commented on that he used asphyxiation as one of his "parlor tricks". Uh... yeah. You know, even if you know what you're doing, you can still accidentally kill a person. He's just gotten lucky. And he wants his wife's absolute trust. Hmmm...
