The h needs to be duct taped to the ceiling. She's constantly charging off blindly into danger, nearly getting run over, hit over the head, etc. She says at one point (after the bump on the head, and subsequent stitches) that she felt useless in the ER after an incident when she was a teen, and she doesn't want to feel like that again. Honey, you'll be a lot more useless if you're dead, particularly to the baby left in your care.
And...there's a story arc that only vaguely has anything to do with the book, but the setup occupies the beginning and has everyone distracted.
