C791 - Eve Langlais

It's a strange combination of an idea that appeared once in a multi-author series and well, those nanobots, though at least they didn't create a vampire. I suppose it could be argued, when you think about it, that they did in a way since they're able to absorb needed materials from their surroundings - the H absorbed metals from the manacles.

The idea of cyborgs rebelling after learning of their scheduled termination isn't new either. So I guess it comes down to who done it better. I'm not sure, to be honest. The book was unexpectedly serious considering the author.

What I did like - that the heroine was a fellow cyborg, even if unaware (it bothers me really when authors insist on making their heroines human, as if we, the readers, couldn't possibly relate to heroines who weren't. Also bothers me when non-human "heroes" dump all non-human females they have relationships with in favor of a human).

What I was not so thrilled with - the h's non-reaction to essentially being kidnapped. Really? I got that her life was crappy, but I still would expect at least a little drama at some neanderthal just grabbing her and running.

Is it always a requirement for a cyborg series to have one who absolutely despises humans and females? Really?
