I Shall Wear Midnight - Terry Pratchett

Wow. Quite a bit of time has passed since the Wintersmith. Tiffany has been doing the work of seemingly 3 witches because there are so many towns in her "steading". And at some point, she and Roland have had a falling out of sorts. Now, he's getting married, and SOMEthing is stirring up trouble for witches. His father - the Baron - dies, and Tiffany and co have to find him as he, his fiancée, and her mother are in Ankh Mor-Pork. The Nac Mac Feegles manage to cause chaos, getting them politely asked to leave. Trouble follows them home...

Most YA books feature a kid whining about his/her fate. I hate that, and as a general rule, avoid the genre like the plague. Refreshingly, Tiffany acts older than she is, and does it with the realization that she isn't perfect.

Oddities - the whole time-traveling spirit thing was...well, I wasn't really sure about the why. She wasn't really able to help her younger self.
