Unlike the previous two, the H gets along with the king - his brother. So no conflict there. Instead, the challenge is to find out the nature of the curse, and by extension, to save (if possible) the current queen. Unfortunately, she's too far gone. Unfortunately too, the h's being the elf makes her suspect.
The H has secrets of his own, though I suspected in the previous book when we first met him. Eventually they figure things out. Not in time to save the queen, and unfortunately that lead the king to attempt to bargain with the one who'd been leading him astray. So the Chameleon can shift into a dragon, but has no fire. And as an Embraced, he can talk in that guise too.
I would like to know how they're supposed to kill him. He was roasted, nobody was paying attention, and he turned into a phoenix and escaped to annoy us another book.
