Even Vampires Get the Blues: A Deadly Angels Book - Sandra Hill

Hmmm well, this one pretty much combines all the author's series. Not sure how I feel about THAT as to some extent, I like a series to exist in its own microcosm. At least, the outside interference when H/h ran into issues was marginal.

So the H, whose crime was greed, gets assigned to a joint effort in an attempt to corral Boka Harem. Of course all the SEALs were involved. Of course the h happens to be Creole and needing to attend a wedding back home, setting the stage for, well, a run-in (brief, thank you) with the Cajuns. Of course, the last straw that had gotten H in trouble in the first place was slave trading. The h had an octoroon ancestor and...issues...about this. The purpose of the mission was to stop a bunch of school girls from being taken to be sex slaves.

If I had a nit to pick, it's that the h was so...I dunno...over the top I guess, about her ancestor's status. I think, if one looks back far enough, everyone has an ancestor or three who had no freedom. It's just that looking back far enough isn't always feasible. Food for thought. I guess I get touchy about the universal blame game some people of color (who, if you accused them of being racist, would swear that was a white thing, as if a non-white couldn't possibly be racist) play, and while the h is probably 95% white, she seems to be trying to play that too, and it irritates me.

Re: the future of the series, uh. No. Not all of them need stories. In fact, while I want to see Zeb redeemed, the rest of the Vangels can blend into the wallpaper.
