If He's Daring - Hannah Howell

I'm not really sure what to make of it, to be honest.

Our h married some fellow, for reasons never explained, and well, they had a kid - sort of. I say sort of because well, the fellow wasn't actually into women in the first place and apparently in his attempts to prove to himself otherwise, he'd managed to offend some husband who relieved him of his two best friends. So... the wedding night, it was his BROTHER (!), and thereafter, she was drugged senseless so some poor fool who owed him money could service the broodmare, so to speak, without her any the wiser.

Got that?

So we find out that she's a distant relation to the Wherelock/Vaughn clan - hidden because people at one time did horrible things to people who had the misfortune of being born with gifts. And we also find out the poor fool was a known member of the clan so... Her kid is gifted with the ability to see and communicate with ghosts - like his real father.

And her former brother-in-law is incensed that a kid by someone else will inherit the title. Also incensed that he wasn't appointed guardianship. Thus, the plot - he kidnaps the boy, she steals the carriage, the owner of the carriage runs after her - and HIS son who considers it all a grand adventure.

There is much blundering around, because apparently the dweeb is immune to the H's gifts, and a final confrontation whereupon ghost of daddy dearest inhabits the H and scares the piss out of the dweeb.

Stuff happens, IOW. Ok, did I feel the romance? Yeah. Did I wonder at the H being gun-shy around a h who had gifts of her own? Yes. Dummy, she's already given birth to one special snowflake, and she's got her own oddities. Why do you think she'd run from YOU because you're special?
